Frequently Asked Questions
-
You’re welcome to reach out through the contact page or schedule a free 15-minute consultation call through the appointment page to ask questions and explore whether we may be a good fit.
Beginning therapy can feel like a big step, and my goal is to make the process as clear and supportive as possible. We’ll start with a brief, free consultation call. This time is not a therapy session, but an opportunity to talk through what you’re looking for, answer questions, and determine the best next steps for care.
If we decide to move forward, I’ll guide you through secure intake forms, discuss services and insurance options, and schedule your first session through the appropriate secure clinical platform. We move at your pace, with transparency, care, and intention every step of the way.
I’d be honored to connect and support you in exploring whether Kindroot Therapy is the right space for your growth.

Your first session is a chance for us to get to know each other. We'll explore what brought you to therapy, discuss your goals, and begin creating a plan that fits your needs. You're welcome to go at your own pace — there's no pressure to share everything right away.
-
Sessions typically last 53-60 minutes.
Extended sessions (75–90 minutes) may be available depending on your needs.
-
EMDR is a structured, evidence-based therapy that helps you heal from distressing experiences by changing how your brain and body respond to them.
In EMDR sessions, we’ll:
Identify a specific memory, emotion, or belief that feels stuck or painful
Use bilateral stimulation (like eye movements or tapping) to help your brain reprocess it
Gently work through the memory without needing to relive or retell everything in detail
You’re always in control. I’ll guide the process and check in regularly to make sure you feel safe and grounded. Many clients find EMDR to be both powerful and empowering — a way to release what’s been weighing them down and move forward with more ease.

At this time, Kindroots Therapy is exclusively virtual. All sessions are held via a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform, allowing you to attend therapy from the comfort and privacy of your own space.
Virtual therapy is available to clients located anywhere in South Dakota, and offers flexible, accessible care without the need to travel.
-
Both. I work with teens (13+) and adults, with a focus on trauma, emotional regulation, identity development, and relational healing.
-
Yes — therapy is fully confidential, in accordance with HIPAA and South Dakota laws. I will explain the limits of confidentiality during our first session, such as mandatory reporting requirements related to safety.

Do you accept my insurance?
Kindroots Therapy does accept many types of insurance.
Insurance acceptance varies based on services and individual coverage. We accept select plans, including but not limited to South Dakota Medicaid and Avera Health Plans, and verify benefits before the first session. This allows us to review coverage details and any expected costs ahead of time.
At Kindroots Therapy, we want you to understand your insurance coverage and financial responsibility for counseling services. Please read more about Kindroots Insurance Policy.
If you’re unsure whether your insurance is accepted, you’re encouraged to reach out so we can explore options together.
-
If you’re paying out of pocket, private pay rates are:
$145 for the initial intake session
$120 for each follow-up session
Kindroots Therapy strives to offer fair, transparent pricing, and we are always happy to talk through rates before you begin.
A limited number of sliding scale fee spots for clients who qualify based on financial need. We do not want the cost of therapy to be the reason someone can’t access care — please don’t hesitate to reach out and start a conversation. We can explore what might be possible together.
-
I reserve a limited number of sliding scale slots based on financial need and availability. If cost is a barrier, please reach out — I may be able to refer you to a trusted provider or waitlist option.
-
Payments are processed securely through our clinical billing systems, depending on your insurance and services. Accepted payment methods include major credit and debit cards, as well as HSA/FSA cards where applicable.
